I had ballooned to over 250lbs in April 2007. It was then that I had reached my breaking point. I was very overweight and had to do something.
I started May 1, 2007 and have lost over 50lbs as of Nov 14, 2007. The weight loss has been consistant and entirely rewarding. It has been difficult but not has difficult as I anticipated. Once the pounds started coming off, that was all the incentive I needed. I couldn't wait to see the numbers on the scale get lower.
I eat the same things, just less of it. 1 slice of pizza, no 2nds at the table, More chicken, fish and veggies. I have knocked out beer and sodas entirely, they are killers. I drink water by the gallon and every so often a snap of dark chocolate to curb the sweets. My wife and kids just love the new me and it makes me feel good that I am setting a good example for my 2 young boys. My wife loves my new look and has been a great support.
Most of my exercise has been on a treadmill. I do a walk/run program of 3 miles 5 days a week. I allow 2 days of rest, but make sure that I take the time to find ways during the day that burn a little more calories. Like parking farther away at work, taking the stairs or riding my bike even once or twice around the block while playing with my boys.
I have tried to stay on a consistant eating schedule. Yogurt and banana in morning, fruit or veggies for a mid-morn snack. Chicken dish with veggies for lunch and a regular dinner of whatever I want, just in smaller portions. I drink ice cold water all day long as your body burns calories just to heat the water. Little things like this make a huge differrence.
Remember: THIS IS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE! I truly believe you have to reach a point where you are just tired of feeling and looking the way you do. I reached that point and never looked back.
Anyone who is physically able can do what I did. I used to dream about just losing 10 lbs, I just wouldn't get off my butt to do it. The dream is real! YOU CAN DO IT!
