I Lost 21 In 2 Months With YMCA workout & smarter eating

Weight Loss Success Story Submitted By: Dean Rissler from DE

Hi.

On December 1, 2008, my father died @ age 67. He weighed 450 pounds. My 41st birthday was 2 weeks later 12/16/08.

In mid January, I started my journey @ 300 pounds.
Today, 7 weeks later, I am 279 pounds.
The goal is 200 pounds by December 31, 2009.

I was getting out of breath putting on my construction boots. I could see my 300 pound body moving dangerously in the same path as my father's. So, finally in mid January 2009, I signed up @ Gold's Gym.

Playing racquetball and eating a salad daily, no more fast food burgers & pizza, more chicken & fish & less beef, I lost 12 pounds in the first 14 days.

Then I plataued @ 287 for about 2 weeks.
Finally, with some help from the YMCA (my new gym), the weight loss continued slowly. I can't remember the last time the scale said 279 while I was on it, except every time it passed that number. I am sure it has been at
least 7 years. Now, 7 weeks later = 279. Wait
till I get to 250 and 200. WOW !!!!

I knew that my weight loss had to be for my health's sake for it to be a long term solutiion. I am now in training for several races:

5k scheduled 3/29/09
10k scheduled 4/25/09
mini-marathon Later
marathon Much later
Tri-athalon Even later
Mount Kilamanjaro preferably sooner

I have never been a runner in the past. Never was on the track team. I only played soccer in middle school and was a bike rider in high school. 7 days ago, my 5k time on the treadmill started @ 45 minutes then 37 minutes today 33 minutes, 50 seconds.

Daily workout routine has been several hours:

I do strength conditioning for my lower body,
alternate days - upper body daily: ride the statitonary bike for 3 miles in a "hilly" program
daily: use the treadmill for 1 hour (combination walk, jog)
daily: swim in the pool for 10 lengths

My ultimate goal is to climb Mount Kilamanjaro in Africa. It is considered a walkable mountain.

Find a way to live your dreams before you die.
Life is too short.
This has become my motto.
